Inverness, and most of Nova Scotia for that matter, have quite a variable weather pattern for each season. The four seasons are of course, winter, spring, summer and autumn. Each has a different "spurt" of weather. Winter in Inverness is usually cold and can bring much snow to the area, sometimes as much as 500 centimeters or more. However, Inverness is gradually getting less snow a year. It usually starts snowing in Inverness in the month of November and lasts until April. The average winter temperature is -8 degrees, but it can get a great deal colder with the wind chill factor, sometimes dropping the temperature to a cold -35. Cross country skiing snow-shoeing and ski-dooing along the areas hiking trials are popular outdoor winter past times.

Spring is usually a very wet season, April and May bring much rain to Inverness, sometimes high winds as well. Average temperatures are about -5 degrees Celsius to +10 Celsius at the end of spring. For outdoor enthusiasts the season of restoration and renewal offers much. Hiking on nature's finest trails offers beautiful sights of land and wildlife. Fishing is plentiful in freshwater lakes and streams with the month of May offering fresh lobster from local fisherman at the Inverness wharf.
