After the final mine closed in 1958, many people left Inverness in search of other employment. Many of those that remained in Inverness relied on the fishing industry to provide for themselves and their families. Fishing was then and still is a vital part of the industry in Inverness and continues to expand. In the early 1990's, an addition of the wharf was undertaken so that the wharf could facilitate a larger fleet due to the crab and tuna fishery. Today, two processing plants operate on a seasonal basis, C. B. Seafoods and Cape Bald Packers.

Fishing has been and will continue to be a part of our culture. It has been the subject of many an artist's brush and a writer's pen.
