Broad Cove Concert

Inverness is surrounded by culture which made the town what it is today. Throughout the years, Inverness has surpassed many difficulties but continues to thrive as a community. Our title for this web site is "Home Town Pride" and through the years, our citizens have expressed their pride in Inverness.

Inverness has a great deal to offer for those new to the area. The culture of Inverness expresses itself in many forms; from folklore to arts, music, and economics. The people carry on through difficult economic times, confident that Inverness will once again grow and prosper. Our hopes now lie in eco-tourism where we can take advantage of the beauty of Inverness, located on the sunset side of Cape Breton Island.

One of the ways culture is expressed is through the sounds of music wafting through the town with the gentle ocean breezes. Violin, bagpipes, piano, and vocal talents are among the cultural attractions symbolic of our ancestry. Inverness is predominately a Scottish community. The first settlers baring the name Mac Isaac arrived in 1803 and settled along the coast at Inverness. A cairn dedicated in their memory looks toward the ocean where they once traveled from their native Scotland.

When visiting Inverness, one only needs to walk around town to see and feel how our culture is embedded in our community. Fishing boats, architectural design, museums, art galleries and hand painted murals depicting our coal mining history will allow visitors to experience a part of our unique culture. One can also take part in free Gaelic, weaving and fiddle lessons and perhaps learn a step or two at our local ceilidhs. Hope you join us.
